About Howard Carr

Howard Carr earned an art degree at Chouinard Art School and a fine arts degree from the California College of arts and crafts.

Nothing inspires me more than light, says Carr. That could mean any kind of light on any subject or scene; Capturing the effect of light is what it's all about-thus creating a mood people can relate to. In his paintings this does not always mean dramatic, bright contrast; it could just as well mean a dull fog across a valley. Carr tries to study the hidden colors and values present in nature (and may add a few from his own imagination), but rather than doing that in a complex way, he tries to present the color and mood simply by focusing on the important parts of the painting; the essence of the light and color.
