This outdoor oil
painting workshop will be held at various
locations in and around beautiful Sedona,
Arizona. Students will be expected to have some
experience at painting plein air and this class
will be designed to improve observation,
decision making and effective paint application.
Jill believes that in order to complete a
successful painting on location, sound advance
planning, with the aid of cameras, viewfinders,
sketchbook and the imagination, is essential.
Not only will she discuss various theories of
composition, she will demonstrate editing
decisions regarding form, light and shadow
patterns and color schemes. The purpose of plein
air painting and its relationship to studio work
will also be explored in full. |

Workshop includes
a brief demonstration each day and then advise
on a one-to-one basis in the field, followed by
group critiques at the end of each session. In
case of inclement weather students will be asked
to bring with them photographs of landscapes
that they have studied and know well. Jill Caver
is an award winning plein air artist, her work
was chosen as the “Artist’s Choice” award winner
at the 2008 Sedona Plein Air Festival.
Originating from England, Jill currently lives
in Texas when she in not traveling and painting
in Plein Air Festivals around the country. |
